New addition to the vineyard
Protected by an old quarry, our well-known Burgweg location, which has a unique microclimate, is located on four hectares.
Our top Riesling Burgweg has a full, extract-rich body, creaminess and ripe aromas of vineyard peach and mirabelle. It is one of the winery's top wines. In a side plot of land standing out of the quarry but facing 100% south, there are also ideal conditions for Pinot Noir: the wind-open altitude, the massively limestone-rich soil that promotes minerality is particularly important even more than for Riesling for Pinot Noir.
Convinced of the potential of this location, we therefore planted French Pinot Noir vines from Burgundy back in 2021. These plants delivered promising grapes for the first time in 2022, and the 2023 harvest has now even exceeded our expectations. We would therefore like to share the anticipation of this red wine, which will later cause a sensation as a big plant, with our customers and partners. Although the wine won't be on the market until 2025, trade visitors to Eurovino and ProWein will have the opportunity to taste an exclusive barrel sample.
For us, the sophisticated red grape variety is already one of the winery's favorites. With our glockenspiel, for example, we have an elegant red wine that is typical of the fireside red, full-bodied and velvety with fine spice and berry aroma. Since 2007, the Spätburgunder Glockenspiel, which has already won several awards, has been Glockenspiel Spätburgunder Réserve Aged separately in French oak for 18 months and bottled unfiltered.
Interesting facts about Pinot Noir:
In Germany, just under 12,000 ha of Pinot Noir vines are planted, of which over 1,600 ha are in the Palatinate. The red wine grape variety, which comes from French Burgundy, is one of the best in the world and places high demands on the soil, climate and winemaker's care.
